This week the children have been learning all about the different types of weather we get, with lots of fun weather based activities, stories and rhymes.
The activities included making a weather spinner. This gave the children the opportunity to learn the different weather symbols, talk about what the weather was currently doing and what type of weather each child liked best. This was a great activity to develop the children’s speech and language skills.

For another activity, we dressed one child up for a rainy day, one for a snowy day, one for a windy day and one for a sunny day. The other children had to guess which weather these children were prepared for! They then all got chance to go on a sensory ‘weather walk’. A pump was used to create a windy day, a rain maker musical instrument for a rainy day, a drum for a stormy day, ice for a cold day and warm water for a sunny day.

Outside the children used chalk to draw rainbows on the ground, they then put their wellingtons on and used watering cans to pour ‘rain’ over these drawings to wash them away. The children enjoyed jumping in the puddles they had made! We talked about how the sun would come out and dry up the puddles. All of these activities help the children understand the world around them.
The rhymes for the week were ‘I hear thunder’ for the three to four year olds where they used sticks to make sounds, listening very carefully to the instructions and ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ for the two year olds who got chance to play with a spider puppet.
