This week the children have been learning all about The Water Cycle using basic science experiments, visual aids and activities, and learning the importance of water and talking about where rain comes from.  The water cycle is the path that all water follows as it moves around the earth.

The children have been super amazing at listening and joining in with fun activities and trying their hardest to say and repeat big words like Evaporation, Condensation, Precipitation, Collection. We have been so proud of them all.

We have been talking about where rain comes from and the children where very enthusiastic with their answers!  We also talked about what happens to puddles of water when the sun comes out, how it dries up and then turns into a gas and rises (Evaporation), it rises up towards the sky, the wind blows it along to then form clouds and when the little droplets (Condensation) become too heavy the droplets in the clouds start to fall and turn into rain/snow (Precipitation), they fall into rivers, oceans, lakes, make puddles of water (collection) to start the process all over again.   The children have watched a video of how The Water Cycle works and the importance of water and that 97% of the water on earth is salty.

The children enjoyed taking part in various activities and science experiments with their friends and were encouraged to share and take turns when holding and using the water pipette to draw up water and squeeze it out again onto pictures and into foam, which is good for fine motor skills, focus and concentration.  The children also got to see how condensation appears with a window experiment as the sun shines. Plus they also did a cloud/rain experiment using shaving foam and blue food colouring which they all found fascinating as they made their own rain.

The story of the week was ‘The Water Cycle Adventure’ a fun take on what happens to water and how important water is in our every day lives. Asking the children what needs water to grow/live, Plants, Animals, Humans, giving them a connection to the natural world and the understanding of why we need to save water – such as turning taps off when not using them.

This week there has been lots of fun interaction and they have all enjoyed the experiments they have done together.

When out and about over the weekend talk about water and what happens to it.  Look at any puddles (have fun and jump up and down) ask them where it goes, you might be surprised by the answer!
